music: in blows autumn.

a mix for you: in blows autumn.

to be enjoyed while you . . .

make a pot of soup
sip your morning tea
move through your yoga practice
cuddle on the couch
listen to the rain
walk in the woods
fill in the blank . . . .

an athlete of god.

martha_graham_Kick“I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing, or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. In each, it is the performance of a dedicated, precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which come shape of achievement, the sense of one’s being, the satisfaction of spirit. One becomes in some area an athlete of God. Practice means to perform over and over again, in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired.”

“from martha graham’s “this i believe” essay.

andy’s family introduced me to ‘theatre zarko’ – a small puppet theatre from evanston, il. the artistic director and master puppet artist, michael montenegro, is an old friend of andy’s father. his creations are haunting, complicated, and beautiful.

a visit. part 1.

my mom and stepfather came out for a visit recently. it was so fun to show them my new home in indiana and to share chicago with them.  highlights of the visit included a tour of notre dame, the chicago river architecture cruise (i had been wanting to do that for so long!! it was amazing), dinner at the blue bird, a backporch breakfast at the mitchell’s, a visit to bookman’s alley in evanston, a walk around lighthouse beach, a puppet show fundraiser for theatre zarko (more on this when i get my film developed) and a goodbye breakfast at the lucky platter.  it was a lovely visit. it was hard to say goodbye.

love you guys! come back soon!

end of summer.

this roll of film is from a few weeks ago: more shots of lago michigan; andy mitchell in his white pants and red sneakers (a standard for him this summer); a shamefully delicious macaroon from froehlich’s; a hound; and others.

to come: photos from last weekend with my mom and step-dad. they drove in for a visit. it was lovely.

after a 15 year hiatus, i signed up for a ballet class – it begins this week.  i’m so excited.

i’m going to have to try hard not to giggle in class thanks to this post by pop culture librarian.
