ten years ago i went on an adventure to ecuador and peru. my father bought me a lovely old pentax camera with a 50mm lens as a going away present. i have been shooting with it lately. i love hearing the click of the shutter. i love the delayed gratification – viewing the captured moments and images after some time has passed. and shooting with the pentax makes me feel closer to dad.

the last photo is of “falling cloudberries,” Tessa Kiros’ beautiful follow-up to “apples for jam.” (actually, she may have written cloudberries first) i return to her cookbooks as much for the photography as i do for the delicious recipes.

you need what we have.

some shots from an all-star day in the middle of america.

i love the vibrant color that pops off the warn out factories and buildings – as though insisting: “there’s life in me yet.” and the soft images of the rolling farms we passed on our way to three oaks for a movie. by the way, if you haven’t seen “away we go” yet, i recommend it.
